2:30

I thought 1:00 church was bad.

Try 2:30.

I seriously don't know what to do with myself.

Happy Father's Day to all fathers out there!
My dad is the coolest.

Family

Today I got into the topic of Families and The Home with my roommate and my home teachers. We just talked about how Christmas is a great tool that brings the families together. That got me thinking. I've noticed especially this year how much that means to me. To have the family all home. To sit down together at the dinner table for a meal. My family is slowly starting to experience that time, when no one eats together any more, family home evening doesn't always happen, children are off at college, some in crazy places like Idaho, etc. This Christmas year was very special to me. I just loved every minute of time I was able to spend with my family. Not only to know that I can always come home to people who will always love me, but to know that my home is a place where the spirit can abide. I think sometimes I take that for granted.

Not everyone has that.

I'm so blessed to have a wonderful dad who is a worthy priesthood holder. Who loves his kids and would do anything for them. Who loves the Lord. Who loves....everyone. Unconditionally. Loves my mom. Speaking of my mother, I have a wonderful mother. A lot of who I am today is because of her. Even those dang emotions! I can talk to her about anything. She puts up with five crazy kids and loves us all. At least I hope she does! She is the glue to our family. She is my best friend. I also can't forget my siblings. These past two years I have become so much closer to them. I love spending time with them. Learning about them. Being able to share experiences with them. To teach them as well as being taught by them. I love them all so much and am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to be apart of this family.

New Calling

So....I get a call today asking if I can meet with the Bishop.

Dun dun dun!

Sadly I knew this wouldn't be a "get to know you" meeting. I knew I was getting a calling. Which this time I was actually okay with because I knew the Relief Society presidency was already filled, and the ward already had a choir director. Don't get me wrong, I am happy do to whatever the Lord feels I need to do. It would just be nice to have a change. That's all I have been doing for a while. Well during sacrament meeting, when I thought I was safe, the bishop releases half of the relief society presidency, AND the choir director! Now I'm in trouble.

I am really, REALLY hoping it's not choir director. So we finally get to the chase.
The calling that I received was neither! I was shocked. I have been called as a ward missionary.
Yeah didn't see that one coming. At all. He talked about how there were a couple of non members who had come that I would be working with as well as a couple of members that have been non active for 3-4 years that just decided to come to our ward today. So needless to say I am very, very much intimidated by this calling. I don't feel like I know enough to teach these people. There are still many things I am finding out on my own! But I know that this is what Heavenly Father wants me to do. Haha I asked for a change and he sure gave me that!

Man. I have a lot of work to do.

Ward

So....I tried out the BYU ward this last Sunday.

They were all very nice and more than willing to help me figure out where to go.
But....I felt really really bad for this one kid. He was very nice and very helpful and from Madagascar. Let me say that again....he was from Madagascar. I had the hardest time understanding what he was trying to say and I felt bad I couldn't figure it out!

"ar u goin to word poir?"
(I thought he said ward choir...) "No I am actually heading home for family stuff, but I love to sing so I will come next time!"
"No....word poir!"
"Ward choir?"
"Word poir!" (then puts his hands together to resemble praying.)

Light bulb turns on....

"Oooohh! Ward prayer!"

He is probably thinking "stupid white girl..."

I'll work on it. I promise.

New Music Video

Mormon Tabernacle Choir has a new music video. After watching it myself, it made me think about what our church is really about. Service. Helping others. Everyone has something to give whether it be time, money, advice, skills, even blood. Look for ways to help those in need. Those you help may one day be the ones helping you.

One week

So I am back from my week without the computer. It made such a big difference that week. I always would catch myself almost getting on facebook to see what everyone is doing or wanting to write a story in my blog. But I was able to resist! I found I was able to get a lot more stuff done, and I loved that I read my scriptures more than twice a day and actually did a deep reading. Now to catch you up on my week. Here are just a couple of pictures.

  • Draper Temple open house - So pretty! I think that was my first time I was able to see all the rooms in a temple.
  • One of my good friends that worked with me at the dental office left us to move....twas very sad but I am happy for her and her family to get situated! I hope we keep in touch!
  • A bunch of friends and I decided Saturday that we would take a random road trip to Crystal Hot Springs - so much fun! It felt like summer and there were a couple of cute boys there :) That always helps!
  • My roommate and I decided to have a "funny picture" night! I would post some other pictures but unfortunately they are too unfortunate looking to be posted on here.
Sacrament meeting again was great, full of very wonderful talks and a very pretty musical number. Although we were short in number seeing as it is spring break. But none the less, the spirit made up for that!

Amazed

I already wrote today but I just wanted to comment on how awesome my ward is. I look forward to every fast and testimony meeting because I get to hear so many wonderful testimonies. The spirit is constantly there and is felt very strongly. It's like a spiritual feeding and I never want it to end! I've never noticed how many converts that are in my ward. Many of them bore their testimony today and you could just see how blessed and happy their life had become because of the gospel. We have a member in our ward who just joined the church last year and it's been wonderful to see the changes that he has taken because of this choice he has made. Each one of them are such great examples to me in how they live their life. I'm so thankful to be part of such a wonderful ward, with an awesome bishopric, and a ward full of strong members of the church.

This will be my last post for this week as I decided that I need to take a break from technology for a week. I know some of us fall into this trap sometimes. I feel like I am always on the computer surfing the web when I have nothing else to do. I hope that by doing this it will help me to use this extra time doing the things I really should be doing such as more scripture study, baptisms, and service. I will post again after the week is over and let you all know how things went since this week will be full of fun things that I will be doing! Until then.
