Rehersal #1

So first let me say that I was mistaken. The choir that I am singing in that will be singing for General Conference will be performing at the afternoon Saturday session. Not Sunday. I don't know why I thought it was Sunday because that is MOTAB's day.

Today was our first rehearsal and I was a tad late. Gasp I know! I am so coming earlier next time. I absolutely loath UVU parking. So they gave us all the rules. You must be LDS. That one made me laugh. Apparently this has happened before...hopefully they became a member! You must not be excommunicated. You must not be a terrorist. I think that one was a joke ish....Everyone of course was wondering what we would be required to wear.

Boys: Missionary hair cut. Side burns must not be longer than the middle of your ear. No facial hair what so ever AND....if you have enough hair to part....part it! (I saw a lot of awesome faces on the boys as he said this.) No dapper dan suits, no pinstripes, and dark ties are a go but no cartoons or writings on the tie.

Girls: Black closed healed shoes. No big heals. Black tights. Black skirt mid calf (pretty sure I don't own one that goes to my calf because it makes me look oober short), no hair in the face, but no ponytail and our hair has to be pushed behind our shoulders and stay there....yeah right. No jewelry except small earrings. Button up blouse, solid color. They will tell us the colors sometime in February.

We went over a bunch of songs that they were going to submit to the church tonight. We are learning six songs and they will all be memorized. Depending on how long the talks go we might sing between four to six of them. It's a lot of stuff but gosh do I consider myself blessed to be able to do this. To share with the world the spirit, and our testimonies through music. I've always prayed that I would have an opportunity where I would be able to share my testimony through that which I love to do, which is sing.

Again what a blessing I have been given.

Thanksgiving and BMT Birthday

There are so many things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. First I am so thankful for the wonderful family that I have. I have the best parents anyone could ask for. They are the greatest and have raised me well. I hope I can continue to show them my gratitude for them as I continue to grow. I am also so thankful for my brother and sisters. We all have grown up so much over the past couple of years and have continued to come closer as siblings. They are all such great examples to me. Second, my wonderful grandparents. They all have lived such wonderful lives, have accomplished much, and are full of memories and love for all their children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren. Third, I am thankful for all the wonderful friends that I have had through out my life. They have all been such great examples to me and they are the kind of friends that are always watching out for ya. I have never had to worry about my standards around them because they had the same. Mostly I am just grateful for my family. I love them all so much. And my dads cheesecake, mash potatoes, turkey, and the plethora of pies. I can't forget about those. Today was also Megan and I's BMT (bone marrow transplant) birthday. This is the first time it's been right on Thanksgiving. This became a tradition in the hospital when I first received my bone marrow transplant from Megan. The nurses told us that this bone marrow transplant was in a way for me, giving me new life. Therefore I needed a birthday! I gave Megan a gift, and my parents gave Megan and I a Christmas ornament. That tradition has continued in our family ever since, except now my parents give all the children a Christmas ornament. This year is our 8th year since the transplant. Crazy how the time goes by. Sometimes it feels like this was all a dream. As a family we read a little bit of what my parents wrote about that day of the transplant and looked at some pictures....we all looked so little. Thinking back on this, I am full of gratitude for my parents and my sister Megan. I started to get a little teary eyed reading what happened during this day for Megan and I. It's a time in my life that I will never forget. I hope I can use this experience that I was given to help others in any way I can. I didn't get through this trial just to sit and be happy about life.

I can't end this without thanking my Heavenly Father and my savior Jesus Christ. I know that they have been with me every step of the way through my life and they will continue to be with me. I know I still have some things to learn and trials to go through, but however hard and difficult it may be for me, I do not fear for I know that I can always turn to my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I am so thankful for the gospel and the part that it plays in my life. It's hard to think of what my life would be without it.

A Child of God

So one of my new year resolutions was to actually get up in fast and testimony meeting and share my testimony. I don't know why but it is so hard for me to do that! I have never been able to say one with out crying and I just don't like getting up to share my testimony. I have given myself the excuse that I share my testimony with others through music. But today I finally got up and bore my testimony. As soon as they turned the time over to us, my roommate and I sat up and were the first ones. I just semi talked about how the gospel is like a universal language. Just like a smile, or the word "love", no mater where you are, they mean the same thing. In a world that is constantly changing, Pluto is a planet...now it's not; eat 6 servings of carbs a day....now limit carbs as much as you can. I'm just so grateful to have the gospel as my constant guide. No matter where you may find yourself in the world, the gospel will always be the same.

This testimony meeting has been one of the first in a while where there was never a moment of silence. There was always someone getting up to share their testimony. It was so refreshing to see how eager everyone was to share their testimony with others. The spirit was so strong and I am so grateful that I was able to add my simple testimony. One such testimony that touched mine was my roommates. She talked about the phrase, "I am a child of God" and how we would all treat others as such and think of ourselves as such if we only knew always the true meaning of that phrase. It's such a simple doctrine but yet I feel it's the hardest to grasp sometimes. We are always our worst critic and the hardest on ourselves. If we all knew we were children of God, how better would the world be. We would see those we may not get along with in a different light. Most importantly of all, we would see ourselves in a different light.
