A Man, a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage

I had a dream about a man, a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage during my wonderful nap that I had allowed myself to have. Now this dream is actually another puzzle my math teacher had given us. I love puzzles...but this one just wouldn't go away. I kept thinking about during Meteorology and obviously dreamt about it too. Lets see if any of you can figure it out.

  • A man takes a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage across the river. The only boat he could find could only take two of them at a time. (so him and another object) But he had been ordered to transfer all of these to the other side in good condition. How could this be done?

Let me know if any of you expand your brain far enough to figure it out. Pretty sure I would just put them all in individual boxes so they all don't eat each other...but that's not the answer. Good luck!

First Impressions

The dreaded first day of school.

I was actually looking semi forward to this happy occasion just because I wanted to get back into a normal routine. Well the morning started off with my roommate and I missing the bus! Parking is crazy here at Weber and I didn't want to buy a parking pass. So we both had to run back to the apartment, get in my truck, and find somewhere to park where we would be close and not ticketed. My first class was math...the last math class I will ever have to take!! It's completely packed...I am forced to sit on the very front row. My teacher is a little crazy, but she has spunk and I really like her personality. And she is making us do puzzles to "help expand our minds and learn how to think outside the box." Like I said a little crazy but she has potential. On to my next class, Geology, where we will be learning about the weather. The only thing I am looking forward to in that class is when we get to learn about lightning! I could sit and watch lightning all day. My teacher is awesome and is very knowledgeable on the subject. Should be a fun class. Now my next class, which is clear on the opposite side of campus, (I should've looked at that before I signed up for my classes...they are all over the place!) I don't really know what to think of it yet. It's Interpersonal Communications, and there are only 25-30 students in the class...which is how it's supposed to be. My teacher looks exactly like Dwight off The Office so do you think I will be able to take him seriously? Heavens no. But my class is so diverse I love it! There are 2 girls from Afghanistan, one from Japan and India, a set of very attractive twins, three boys just "fresh from their mission" and they are completely awkward to talk to. Let’s hope they break out of their bubble soon...for this is a communication class. After that class I get a little break before I make my journey to the other side of campus for my "I'm going to die" class. Bio Med. I am so glad that my roommate is also taking it with me. I force myself to sit on the front row so I will actually pay attention. It actually wasn't really that hard to pay attention though because the stuff we are learning is so fascinating. Basically Bio Med is a class that teaches anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and microbiology in one class. Talk about brain overload! But one thing that really caught my attention was the mentioning of a field trip! Oh how I miss fieldtrips. But this was no ordinary fieldtrip. He announced that our class would be going to the Body Worlds exhibit which is actually coming to Salt Lake. Now if you have no idea what I am talking about, please feel free to click on the link above. They stuff that they can do is amazing! Here is a little blurp from their website: BODY WORLDS features authentic human specimens preserved through a revolutionary process called Plastination. This remarkable preservation technique replaces bodily fluids and fat with reactive plastics, thereby preserving human tissue in its natural state. Visitors who embark on this amazing journey below the skin's surface will view an extensive collection including more than 200 authentic organs, systems and whole-body displays.

So that got me really excited. Well needless to say, I am really excited for things to start rolling along. I am a little overwhelmed right now but I think when next week rolls along I should have my routine down.

What did you just say?

My roommie and I were talking politics...which doesn't happen very often because I hate discussing politics. We were discussing who we wanted for President and why. Honestly I don't like either of them...but if I had to chose one it would be McCain...ONLY...if he had Romney as his 2nd counselor. That's when my roommate started laughing off the wazoo. I really didn't catch what I had said until she repeated it back to me. "only if Romney was his 2nd counselor?" haha only I would say something like that!

Wine & Cheese Crowd

The night began with the fam driving up to Deer Creek to listen to the MOTAB and The Utah Symphony. The setting was a beauty of trees and mountains surrounding you. We got there way early so we could actually get a good seat and it’s a good thing we came early because there were a ton of people there! We set up our chairs and blankets and got cozy, passed out the sandwiches and started eating. I was enjoying my sandwich when I looked behind me and saw 2 metal contraptions coming up out of the ground holding wine glasses. I looked to my left to see a couple with a little basket holding their wine glasses and 2 bottles of fine wine, along with some cheese and crackers. Oh brother! We are amongst the wine and cheese crowd. I’m not going to lie, I could see myself doing the exact thing if I wasn’t Mormon. I always fantasize about how I would collect the finest wine, and sip it under a big white tent out in my lovely garden. But once my dad pulled out the whirly pop, I was no longer fantasizing about wine. My dad pulled out a little propane tank along with a little cooker. He put the popcorn in with some delectable seasonings and put it on the heat to pop. The wind blew the smell of the delicious popcorn to me and to people all around us. The couple with the wine looked at us and smiled! One lady we scared when the popcorn started to pop; just about dropped her wine glass when she turned and looked at us with the most hilarious expression I have yet seen! I only wish I had captured the moment! The couple next to us thought that was the coolest thing they have ever seen! I offered them my bowl of delicious homemade popcorn and watched them as they savored every bite. The popcorn was a smash and a favorite within the crowd.
As the MOTAB were coming onto the stage we spotted mom! We waved to her and waited for her to do her famous head nod, to let us know that she saw us, (they usually encourage members of the choir not to wave back) making us laugh every time! We decided to have a little fun with her, making funny hand gestures at her, doing some sign language, doing the wave….she laughed and signed “loser” back to us, low so people wouldn’t be able to see it. I bet the choir members next to here where thinking, “Whose weird family is that?” We are all so proud of mom and for being able to do what she loves! The program was awesome with the MOTAB singing some of our favorite folk songs including: Cindy, Betelehemu, Danny Boy, Bound for the Promise Land, and a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace! The Utah Symphony was fantastic as well, playing some of the most beautiful songs. It got a bit chilly but I enjoyed every second of it. The highlight of the night was after the choir had performed Betelehemu and my dad had overheard a lady behind us that complimented on how the choir moved saying, “I didn’t know Mormons could move like that!” I almost peed my pants of laughter!

Quirks

I've come to love watching people; studying them; trying to figure out why they do what they do; what weird quirks lie in themselves. I could spend hours in a mall, park, or grocery store, just watching. I jotted down a couple of notes and talked with my roommate about what I had found. I soon come to realize that she has done the same thing, except she started with me. It was very interesting to see myself and what weird quirks I have through another persons eyes. For instance, she caught me flossing my teeth at least 4 times a day. Most people would find that a little weird but to me it's every day living.

I can say that I am not a "neat freak" but I guess you could say that I like to organize. My closet contains all my shirts hanged up from short sleeve, medium sleeve, to long sleeve. They are also organized by color. My shoes (the many that I have) are also organized by style and how often I wear them.

Music pretty much never leaves me. The first thing I do when I wake up is turn on some music. The first thing I do when I come home is turn on some music. I brush my teeth twice when I wake up. First I brush right when I wake up. Then I brush after eating breakfast for exactly 3 minutes.

I sleep flat on my back and don't move around; and I usually have to set my alarm to go off early because I know that I will push the "snooze" button at least twice.

When I paint my fingernails, (and that is rare) I usually start to pick it off the day after.

I hate to write with pencils, and usually only like to use a blue pen when writing.

After looking at the little quirks I was able to find along with my roommate, as weird as this sounds, I feel like I know myself a little better. Sometimes you kind of lose yourself and forget what you do that makes you, you! Well as for me, I have just become reacquainted with myself. I know who I am and am grateful for the little quirks that make me different from all the other Heathers in the world.

Update

First let me just get this off my chest...Summer semester is over!!! Feels so liberating to say that! I didn't know if I would survive this last week but I did. Just a little update on what I have done:

  • Went boating with my Packard aunts, uncles, and cousins

  • Got the book Breaking Dawn 5 days before it even came out!! (funny story actually...read below)

  • Went to the Breaking Dawn Party and Borders where I saw my dear friend! (Also read below)

  • Wrote a bunch of missionary letters

  • Forgot to mail bunch of missionary letters

  • Found a new place to live!

  • Went swimming and got burned

  • Finished Breaking Dawn in 2 days!

  • Had my room all packed up and ready to move

  • Slammed my finger in a door...1st timer on that one!

  • Went to the Dental office to have them drill a hole in my finger to drain the blood

  • Bought 4 new pairs of shoes!

Breaking Dawn: Well last Monday, (July 28th) I was grocery shopping at Smiths. Now wherever I am shopping I usually find myself in the book section just to see if anything interests me. Well I was in the book section at Smiths when I spotted three copies of Breaking Dawn. Now I'm thinking to myself..."ha nice prank whoever did that!" I know the book isn't supposed to come out until August 2nd. Then I actually grab the book and start flipping through the pages and come to realize that...oh my heck! It's the real thing! So I grab a copy and put it in with the rest of my groceries! How awesome is that?!? All though, I had to have pinktights hide it has soon as I got home because I had finals all that week; but as soon as I was done with my last final on Thursday, I rushed home and told pinktights that I am now allowed to read it.

Breaking Dawn Party: Now I really didn't want to go because I already had the book...but it was kinda fun to see what kinds of crazy people would show up! I was actually impressed with the party that Borders threw. They had a band outside playing music, a place where you could do face paint and make bracelets, they had the "ugliest bridesmaid dress" contest, as well as the "more creative t-shirt" contest; But my favorite thing they had there was a blood bank! Yes you heard me correct! You could give you precious blood until 11:00! If I could give blood, then I totally would've done it
